ROCKINGHAM — A slow start on both ends of the field led to a non-conference loss for the Richmond Senior High School girls’ soccer team on Friday.

Hosting Sun Valley High School, the Lady Raiders lost 8-1.

The Lady Spartans scored four goals in each half, including their first four goals in the opening 13 minutes.

Scoring her first goal of the season was junior C’Nedra Hinson, who accounted for Richmond’s lone tally in the 24th minute.

Collecting a bouncing ball along the left side of the 18-yard box, Hinson sent a hard shot low inside the near post.

“We started flat tonight, and it’s hard to bounce back when we give up four quick goals,” head coach Chris Larsen said. “I’m glad that C’Nedra was able to find the back of the net for her first goal, and hopefully the girls will use this as a learning experience moving forward.”

Senior Karla Artolozaga had four goals for Sun Valley, and Bella Kaplan had two scores. Adding a goal apiece were Hailey Scleicher and Jolie Kaplan.

Richmond (3-4, 0-1 SAC) will return to Sandhills Athletic Conference play on Monday with a make-up game against Pinecrest High School (1-3-2). Varsity will start at 7 p.m.

Note: The junior varsity girls’ soccer team did not play on Friday, and will return to action on Monday against Pinecrest. The game will begin at 5 p.m.
