ROCKINGHAM — Helping the team to a big win on Friday, senior football player Jamison Jones has been named the Official Richmond County Male Student-Athlete of the Week presented by HWY 55.

A aggressive tackler on defense, Jones’ effort in the secondary limited Hoke County’s ability to move the football on the ground or through the air.

In a game dominated by Richmond’s defense, Jones muscled his way to his first career recognition.

“TACKLING THE BUCKS” WITH JAMISON JONES

Friday’s 41-0 shutout win over Hoke County was a good morale booster for the Raiders, who returned to the win column for the second time in seven games this season.

Richmond got after quarterback Brandon Saunders and Jones nearly had a single-game career performance. He finished with seven total tackles, one shy of his personal record in a game, which he set against Hoke County as a junior.

Working the right side of the field, six of Jones’ tackles were solo drag downs. He also registered two tackles-for-loss, which tied his single-game career high. Jones’ seven tackles were his most in a game this season.

In a game highlighted by the Raiders’ defense spending a lot of time in the Bucks’ backfield, Jones played a part in the team’s 21 total tackles-for-loss.

On Hoke County’s third offensive drive to start the game, Jones broke up a pass on third down that brought up one of five consecutive three-and-outs for the Bucks to start the game.

Through seven games this season, Jones is currently first on the team in passes defensed (4), is tied for third in tackles-for-loss (6.0), is fifth in total tackles (31) and is sixth in tackles per game (4.4).

The Raiders (2-5, 2-1 SAC) are set to play on the road again this Friday at Union Pines High School (2-4, 1-1 SAC). Kickoff will get underway at 7:30 p.m.
