ROCKINGHAM — While the Richmond varsity boys’ basketball team earned its sixth-straight Sandhills Athletic Conference win Friday at Jack Britt High School, the junior varsity and freshman teams helped complete the sweep against the Buccaneers.

But unlike the varsity team’s final-second nail biter, the two younger squads rolled to big-time wins.

JV Raiders use two double-doubles to rout Bucs

Inside Raider Gymnasium, the junior varsity Raiders also won their sixth-straight game, routing the Bucs 78-43. Thanks to matching double-doubles by sophomores Jakolbe Baldwin and CJ Tillman, Richmond improved to 8-7 overall and 7-3 in SAC play.

Baldwin and Tillman both finished with a game-high 18 points, while also grabbing 12 rebounds. Tuesday against Pinecrest, Baldwin tipped in a last-second putback opportunity to lift the Raiders over the Patriots. For Tillman, it was his biggest performance of the season.

The game was never really in question for head coach Tony Terry’s team, as it outscored the Bucs by at least nine points in three of the four quarters. Freshman Jalen Davis also added 12 points in the win.

Baldwin was even in both halves, dropping nine points on either side of the intermission. Tillman, however, caught fire in the second half, netting 14 points in the final two periods. His best frame was the third quarter, which he scored 12 points.

Just shy of reaching double-digits were sophomore Dylan Lewis and freshman De Shon Watson, both of whom finished with eight points. Isaiah Jones and Travion Dumas added six points apiece in the win.

Richmond will return to the hardwood Tuesday when its hosts Hoke County High School. The last time the Raiders lost was against the Bucks on the road. Tip is set for 6 p.m.

Ninth Grade Academy also blasts Bucs

Across town at Richmond County Ninth Grade Academy, the freshman Raiders improved to 7-3 on the season with a 59-22 thrashing of the Buccaneers.

Coming in clutch for the Raiders was KeSean Ingram, who scored a game-high 22 points. He picked up 10 of those points in the first quarter, and finished the first half with 16 points. Javares Stanback was the only other Raider to finish with double-digits in points, collecting 10 in the win.

Harley Honeycutt tacked on seven second-half points, while Cason Douglas contributed five points in the win. Cameron Way and Jaiden Covington both added four points.

The freshman team will also host Hoke County Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
