SOUTHERN PINES — Getting back in the win column on Tuesday, the Richmond junior varsity girls’ basketball team defeated Pinecrest.

Playing on the road to start Sandhills Athletic Conference play, the JV Lady Raiders won 43-33.

Sophomore point guard Olivia Brown scored a game-high 21 points and freshman forward Kaniah Little netted a career-high 18 points.

Also scoring were freshmen Iyana Little and Kenya Bailey, both of whom scored two points.

“I’m glad we got back in the win column,” head coach Tonia Breeden said. “Olivia and Kaniah played a great game.

“They worked well together on team ball with passing and making layups. This was a great win for us.”

A quick start put Richmond ahead 17-9 after the first quarter. Brown started with nine points on a triple, two buckets and two free throws. Kaniah Little had four points early on and Iyana Little and Bailey each netted their basket.

Using a 14-2 run in the second quarter, the JV Lady Raiders jumped out to a 31-11 halftime lead.
