ROCKINGHAM — For the third straight day, the Richmond junior varsity boys’ basketball team earned a victory.
Hosting non-conference Pine Forest High School Wednesday, the JV Raiders defeated the JV Trojans 66-42.
Spreading the scoring around between eight players, freshman guard Chance Crowder led the team with 25 points. He had 12 points in the first half and 10 of his 13 second-half points came in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore point guard Amer Morrison also reached double-digits, netting 18 points. He started with eight points in the opening two quarters and added 10 points in the second half.
Also contributing to the win were BJ Hinson (nine points), Kamarie Liles (four points), Josiah Brewington and Andrae Streeter (three points each), and Yusaun Harrison and Collin Hill (two points apiece).
Richmond used Crowder, Morrison, Brewington and Hill to take a 19-8 lead at the end of the first eight minutes. Crowder scored nine points on a three-pointer, two baskets and two free throws.
Morrison netted a trio of buckets for six early points, while Hill made a field goal and Brewington made two shots at the line.
Despite being outscored 12-7 in the second stanza, the JV Raiders took a 26-20 lead into the locker room.
Crowder had his final three points of the half on a bucket and free throw. Morrison and Hinson each had two points.
A pair of 19-point quarters in the second half of play helped the JV Raiders break the game open. During a 19-9 run in the third, Morrison sandwiched a pair of three-pointers around a field goal to add eight points.
Hinson contributed three buckets for six points and Crowder knocked down another three-ball. Streeter scored all three of his points on a basket and a free throw. Adding one shot from the stripe was Brewington.
Leading 45-29 after three complete, Crowder closed the door with five field goals and his final 10 points in the fourth.
Liles made a pair of shots for his four points, with Harrison and Morrison each scoring a field goal. Hinson rounded out the scoring with a free throw.
The JV Raiders (5-3, 3-2 Sandhills Athletic Conference) will host conference opponent Scotland High School Tuesday at 6 p.m.
