JV Raiders coast past Lee County, win 4th straight game

SANFORD — Ten players found the basket for the Richmond Senior High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team in Friday’s win.

Starting the first of three wins against Lee County High School, the JV Raiders defeated the JV Yellow Jackets 71-34.

Sophomore David McNair led the team with 20 points, netting 14 points in the first quarter and adding six more points in the third.

Also reaching double digits was freshman Keidreion Crump, who tallied 16 points in the win. He hit a team-high three three-pointers, and split his scoring with eight points in each half.

Three JV Raiders had 6 points — sophomore Toby McInnis and freshmen Keyonta Davis and Ahaiver McDonald. 

Freshman Jordan Bostick added 5 points, freshman Jason Walker scored 4 points, freshmen Raymond Knotts and Gage Stewart both had 3 points and freshman Jarah Cook tacked on 2 points.

Richmond opened the game on a 6-0 run, using early baskets from Crump and McInnis and two free throws by McNair. After a triple from McNair, his first of two, the JV Raiders closed the quarter on a 13-6 spurt.

McNair had nine of those points, coming on three field goals and another three-pointer. McInnis added a bucket in the paint and McDonald got on the scoresheet with a pair of free throws.

Leading 22-8 after the first quarter, Richmond outscored Lee County 15-5 in the second period. Crump netted the final six of his eight first-half points, adding a triple from the left corner.

Davis also notched a three-pointer in the second, McDonald and McInnis scored two more points each, and Walker tallied his first two points on a steal and transition bucket.

The JV Raiders entered the locker room with a 37-13 lead.

Knotts opened the second half with a three-pointer from the top of the arc, and Stewart capped a 22-point quarter with a three-ball from the left corner.

Crump added two three-pointers and a field goal for his final eight points and McNair netted his last six points on shots in the paint. McDonald recorded a layup for his final two points.

Leading 59-24 at the start of the fourth, head coach Kenta Hutchinson put in several subs. Bostick led the scoring in the fourth with five points, hitting a triple and a field goal. 

Davis added his final three points on a drive and a free throw, and Walker and Cook scored two points to ice the win.

The JV Raiders (11-5, 7-2 SAC) will host Lee County on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., before ending the regular season at Scotland on Friday at 6 p.m.
