JV Raiders cruise past Lee County

ROCKINGHAM — Playing back-to-back nights, the Richmond junior varsity boys’ basketball team earned another win Tuesday.

On their home floor as part of a triple-header against Lee County High School, the JV Raiders cruised to a 61-41 victory.

Nine players found the cylinder in the win, including a game-high 18 points by sophomore Amer Morrison. Freshmen BJ Hinson and Josiah Brewington also reached double-digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Other scorers were Elijah Peterkin (six points), Andrae Streeter (five points), Chancer Crowder and Kamarie Liles (three points each) and Collin Hill and Adrion Pore (two points apiece).

The JV Raiders used a strong first and second quarters to distance themselves 37-24 at halftime.

Part of a 16-11 run in the first quarter, Morrison scored his first 10 points on field goals. Brewington rounded out Richmond’s effort with six points on a trio of buckets.

Netting 21 points to Lee County’s 13 points in the second quarter, five players for Richmond built the double-digit lead.

Morrison, who had 16 points at the half, drained a pair of three-pointers. Streeter also hit a three-ball to get on the board and added a bucket for all five of his points.

Hinson got on the board with two free throws and followed that with a field goal. Crowder (three-pointer) and Peterkin (foul shot, basket) each had three points.

Out of the break, Richmond kept up the offensive output to jump ahead 54-38. Hinson ended his night with a basket followed by a pair of three-pointers to lead the team with eight points.

Peterkin’s final points also came from beyond the arc. Hill and Morrison both had one field goal and Brewington tacked on two free throws.

A low-scoring final eight minutes saw the JV Raiders close it out on a 7-3 run. Liles splashed down a three-pointer, the final of seven made by the team.

Pore got his two points on a drive and Brewington added one more bucket.

The JV Raiders (4-3, 3-2 SAC) will host non-conference Pine Forest High School Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
