SANFORD — Putting an end to its four-game losing streak Friday, the Richmond Senior High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team got back in the win column.

Playing their penultimate game of the season, the JV Raiders defeated Lee County High School 50-38.

In what was the first of three wins for Richmond over Lee County, including both varsity games, freshman Chance Crowder and sophomore Yusaun Harrison reached double-digits.

Crowder scored a game-high 19 points, netting 13 points in the opening two quarters. Harrison had one point at halftime then exploded for 10 points in the fourth quarter to finish with 11 points.

Five other players found the basket in the win — Elijah Perterkin (seven points), Josiah Brewington (five points), BJ Hinson and Makai King (three points each) and Kamarie Liles (two points).

The JV Raiders opened the game to take a 14-9 lead after the first eight minutes. Crowder scored nine points on three field goals and three free throws.

A basket each from Brewington and Peterkin added four points and Harrison sank one of his two opportunities at the line.

Richmond edged Lee County by a point in the second quarter to take a 23-17 lead at halftime.

Crowder paced the team with four more points on a pair of field goals, while Hinson made all three of his points in the win on a bucket and free throw. Liles added his two points to make it a six-point lead.

Out of the locker room, Peterkin found a groove and scored his final five points in the third quarter. He made two baskets and made a free throw.

Part of a 12-point quarter, Crowder made two more field goals and Brewington went 3-for-4 from the stripe to end his scoring.

Lee County outscored Richmond 13-12 in the third, but the JV Raiders held a 35-30 lead.

Thanks to a handful of turnovers and second-chance opportunities, Harrison took advantage in the final stanza with five field goals for 10 points, all in the paint.

His efforts, along with three points from King and one more basket by Crowder iced the victory.

The JV Raiders (7-7, 5-6 SAC) will close their season next Friday at Scotland High School. The game will start at 6 p.m.

The Richmond Observer will publish a photo gallery of Friday’s win Saturday morning.
