FAYETTEVILLE — On the road Friday, the Richmond Senior High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team entered the win column.
Playing at Westover High School, the JV Raiders won the non-conference game 53-41.
Rebounding from their loss earlier in the week at Fairmont, the JV Raiders used five scorers to secure the team’s first win of the season.
Sophomore Jaden Ratliff led the way with a game-high 26 points, which included five made three-pointers.
For the second game in a row, sophomore Adrion Pore connected for double digits, finishing with 12 points. Other scorers for Richmond were freshman Devin Haynes (7 points) and sophomores Amare Bell (6 points) and Eric Legrand (2 points).
The JV Raiders started the game on a 16-9 run during the first quarter. Ratliff drained a pair of triples and added a field goal for his first eight points.
Bell connected on two buckets for four points and Haynes made a triple. Getting his scoring started from the line, Pore made one free throw.
Another strong stretch of scoring in the second quarter gave the JV Raiders a 31-15 lead at halftime.
A dozen of Richmond’s second-quarter points were from Ratliff, who added two three-balls, a pair of baskets and two shots from the free throw line.
Helping extend the lead at the break were Legrand (field goal) and Pore (free throw).
Westover’s strongest quarter of the game was the third, which saw the JV Wolverines outscore Richmond 16-15.
Ratliff and Pore combined for 11 points in the third stanza. Both hit a three-pointer, Ratliff added a trio of free throws and Pore scored a basket.
Haynes netted a field goal and Bell finished his scoring with his final two points with a bucket.
With the game well in hand, 46-31, entering the fourth quarter, Richmond used five points from Pore and two more from Haynes to notch the win.
The JV Raiders (1-1) will host Grace Christian School Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.
