SANFORD — Returning to the road for the first time in three weeks, the Richmond Senior High School junior varsity football team lost on Thursday.

Playing at Lee County High School, the JV Raiders fell by a final score of 31-8 in the Sandhills Athletic Conference game.

Dropping its second game in a row, Richmond fell behind 24-0 at halftime but managed to score on special teams and offense in the second half.

Still trailing by three possessions, the JV Raiders used a high snap on a punt attempt to record a safety. Lee County recovered the ball in the end zone to get Richmond on the board 24-2.

On the ensuing drive, the JV Raiders used the efforts of freshman running back Elijah Ingram to score.

A couple of tough runs by Ingram were followed by a reverse from freshman Juelz Smith, which set up the scoring play.

Taking the handoff, Ingram split left from the line and went 25 yards for the house call. Richmond’s two-point conversion attempt was no good.

Lee County (3-4, 1-3 SAC) scored once more before the final whistle.

The JV Raiders (2-6, 2-3 SAC) have a bye week followed by their final game of the season at home on Thursday, Oct. 26. That game against Scotland will start at 6:30 p.m.
