ASHEBORO — A total of 11 players found the basket in the Richmond junior varsity boys’ basketball win Monday.

On the road for a non-conference game at Uwharrie Charter Academy, the JV Raiders cruised to a 59-42 win.

Sharing the scoring, the JV Raiders were led by freshman Chance Crowder’s 13 points. He scored seven in the first half and six in the final two quarters.

Freshman Josiah Brewington and sophomore Amer Morrison both finished with nine points, while freshman Collin Hill and sophomore Kamarie Liles each had five points.

A trio of freshmen — BJ Hinson, Mikai King and Andrae Streeter — all had four points. Also getting on the board with two points each were sophomore Yusaun Harrison and freshmen Elijah Peterkin and Adrion Pore.

The JV Raiders began the game on a 13-6 run to open the first quarter. Crowder had seven points early on with a three-pointer and two field goals.

Morrison scored a basket and free throw and Brewington extended the lead with his first two points.

Hill led the JV Raiders in scoring in the second stanza, joining the stat sheet with a bucket on a baseline cut followed by a three-pointer.

Six of his teammates — Hinson, Streeter, Harrison, Peterkin, Brewington and King — added two points as part of a quarter that saw Richmond and Uwharrie Charter both net 16 points.

Leading 29-22 to start the third quarter, the JV Raiders extended their lead by adding 19 points to the JV Eagles’ 11 points.

Six players contributed, including Brewington’s final five points. He knocked down two buckets and a free throw. Crowder and Morrison both got back in the mix to net four points apiece.

The run was completed by two points each from Hinson, Streeter and Liles to give the JV Raiders a 48-33 advantage.

Shutting the door in the final eight minutes, Richmond closed the game on an 11-9 stretch. Liles led the way with three points, as Morrison, Crowder, Pore and King tacked on two points each.

It will be a quick turnaround for the JV Raiders (3-3, 2-2 Sandhills Athletic Conference), who will return to conference action at Lee County High School Tuesday.
