ROCKINGHAM — Unlike the meeting the day before, Thursday’s junior varsity Richmond Renegade baseball game wasn’t close on the scoreboard.

Hosting Southern Lee for the second time in two days, the JV Renegades suffered a 10-0 loss in five innings.

The shutout was the first time this summer Richmond failed to score.

In the loss, the JV Renegades managed to register just one hit. Jake Veach led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to the gap.

The team managed to load the bases in the first with two outs, but all three runners were stranded following a strikeout.

Richmond had just four other base runners in the game, including walks drawn by Preston Fann and Braden Baucom.

The other two runners, Jackson Webster and Jason Gainey, were hit by a pitch.

Elijah Shepard started on the mound and threw one inning. He surrendered four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks.

Tossing the final four innings of relief was Colton Brown. He gave up six runs (five earned) on eight hits and had three strikeouts.

Richmond’s defense committed two errors in the game and struck out eight times at the plate.

The JV Renegades (1-2-2) will return to play next Wednesday at home against Union Pines. Play will start at 4 p.m.
