“ATTACK AT THE NET” WITH KATIE WAY

The Lady Raiders were able to play two of their three scheduled matches last week before inclement weather postponed the third. In those matches, victories were earned against non-conference Forest Hills and Southern Lee in the SAC opener.

Back for her third varsity season patrolling the middle of the court, Way’s quick thinking and athletic ability provided Richmond with an aggressive offensive attack and sound defense. She’s also continued her role as a vocal leader for the Lady Raiders.

In a 3-1 win over Forest Hills last Monday, Way helped the Lady Raiders take the first set 26-24, followed by wins in the third (25-13) and fourth (25-19) frames.

During the victory, Way racked up 15 kills and added two digs on defense. She was part of a serving rotation that forced several errors throughout the match.

A night later back on their home court, the Lady Raiders also picked up a 3-1 win against visiting Southern Lee High School. Richmond fell behind early but rallied in the second through fourth sets with wins of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-21.

Across the four frames, Way found the hardwood for 13 kills, chipped in four digs and added a block at the net.

Richmond (5-3, 2-0 SAC) will look to keep its winning streak going on Thursday with a road trip to Union Pines High School (5-3, 1-1 SAC). Play will begin around 6 p.m.
