“RUNNING THE POINT” WITH KEIONNA LOVE

One of two primary point guards used to run the floor by head coach Teddy Moseley, Love has fit in nicely in her return to the Lady Raiders. Through six games this season, she’s averaging 12.3 points per game, which is second on the team behind junior point guard Jayla McDougald.

Love is a two-way player who has the ability to score from the perimeter while also being strong to the basket. On defense, she’s been a big part of Richmond’s successful press and has emerged as a leader on the floor.

The Lady Raiders split their games last week, first defeating non-conference Cheraw High School 63-12 on Tuesday. In that game, Love tallied a team-high 12 points. She scored six points in the first quarter, part of a 33-point scoring blast by Richmond.

Three nights later, the Lady Raiders returned to Sandhills Athletic Conference play against Pinecrest High School. Richmond would go back and forth with the Lady Patriots before finally dropping a 61-53 decision. Despite the team not winning, Love was a crucial part to the Lady Raiders’ scoring, putting up 20 points in the loss.

In the first half, Love scored nine points and added 11 more in the second half. Her shot was tuned in from the three-point line, as she splashed home a team-high five triples against the Lady Patriots.

Richmond is now 4-2 on the season, but 0-2 against SAC opponents. Love and the Lady Raiders will finish the series finale with Cheraw on the road Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
