ROCKINGHAM — Also joining ROSports in our spring edition of Lady Raider Video Chats is the Richmond Senior High School girls’ soccer team.

Back for his second season is head coach Chris Larsen, and it will be a year of transition as he’ll be without 11 seniors from a historic 2019 campaign. But the Lady Raiders boast five returning seniors, all of whom carry at least two years of varsity experience.

Wet weather has limited the Lady Raiders’ outdoor practice time, but Larsen and company are making the best of it. Richmond will scrimmage Saturday at Hoke County High School before opening the season next Monday at Southern Lee High School.

Meeting with ROSports to discuss the upcoming season are seniors Carley Lambeth, Avy Lucero and Valery Standridge, sophomore Kaitlyn Huff and Larsen.

Carley Lambeth, senior midfielder

Lambeth returns for her senior season and has three years of varsity experience to offer Richmond. She talks about her excitement for the upcoming slate, what it’s like to play for Larsen and how she hopes to help fill the gap left by the 11 seniors. (Click photo for video.)

Avy Lucero, senior center back

Known for her work in the backfield, Lucero is also a three-year varsity player and the staple of Richmond’s defense. Lucero talks about what she expects the defense to do this spring, while also explaining how she hopes to get into the scoring column. (Click photo for video.)

Kaitlyn Huff, sophomore forward

Returning as the team’s leading scorer, Huff will look to add to her 12 goals from a season ago as a freshman. She breaks down what makes the Richmond offense a threat, while also noting the help that her older teammates have given her along the way. (Click photo for video.)

Valery Standridge, senior midfielder

Standridge will work alongside Lambeth in the midfield this season, but added that she could be used in other areas as well. The final player to be interviewed, Standridge highlights the current vibe of the team, explains her role in the midfield and points out some of the team’s expectations. (Click photo for video.)

Chris Larsen, second-year head coach

Acknowledging that it will be hard to replace so many lost seniors, Larsen believes the pieces he has this season can fall into place if his players continue to work on the small things and work together as a team. He talks about pre-season workouts and what he hopes to achieve this spring. (Click photo for video.)

ROSports will publish a full season preview later this week.
