ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior High School girls’ golf team faced a tough challenge at Pinehurst No. 6 on Monday.

The Lady Raiders played their fourth match of the season and their first 18-hole round, finishing in fifth place. As a team, Richmond shot a 383.

“It was a long, tough day,” head coach Keith Parsons said. “Pinehurst No. 6 is difficult and it is not an easy course to walk, and a good portion of our group played 18 holes for the first time.

“I am very pleased with how we played,” he added. “Everyone had some of the best shots of her season yesterday; now it’s a matter of stringing those together for a group of holes to see even more improvement.”

Seniors Abigail Tatum and Jamie Sears finished one stroke apart to lead the Lady Raiders. Tatum posted a final score of 125, shooting a 66 on the front nine before posting a 59 on the back nine.

Sears shot a 64 on the front and a 62 on the back to end the round with a score of 126.

Webb ended the day with a 138 (67, 71) and Stutts rounded out Richmond’s scoring with a 142 (70, 72).

Host Pinecrest High School won the match with a team score of 230, and was led by Kitson O’Neal’s score of 73 (35, 38).

Placing second overall was Union Pines High School (298), followed by Scotland (362) and Lee County (375) high schools.

“We have two matches remaining, including a final one at No. 6, and I’m excited to see our progress,” Parsons closed.
