SOUTHERN PINES —Two nights after rallying to a five-set win to open Sandhills Athletic Conference play, the Lady Raider volleyball team couldn’t muster another comeback on Thursday.
On the road at Pinecrest High School, Richmond dropped its first conference bout of the season in straight sets, 0-3.
Set scores were 14-25, 11-25 and 16-25.
“We came out like we did on Tuesday,” head coach Ashleigh Larsen said, alluding to a slow start. “And we just couldn’t dig ourselves out of this one.
“We had a lot of disconnect as a team and Pinecrest capitalized on it,” she added.
The Lady Raiders (4-4, 1-1 SAC) have a three-match home streak next week, starting with Hoke County on Tuesday.
That will be followed by non-conference Anson High School on Wednesday and SAC opponent Union Pines on Thursday. All matches will start at 6 p.m.
JV Lady Raiders also lose to Pinecrest
Ahead of the varsity match, the JV Lady Raiders also fell to Pinecrest in straight sets, 0-2.
Richmond and head coach Melissa Dennis lost 10-25 in the opening frame, before pulling closer, 23-25, in the second stanza.
The JV Lady Raiders (5-3, 1-1 SAC) will host Hoke County on Tuesday, beginning at 5 p.m.
