FAYETTEVILLE — The Richmond Senior High School girls’ soccer team nearly doubled its season total in goals during its win on Saturday.
Scoring four goals in each of their first two games, the Lady Raiders found the back of the net seven times in a 7-0 victory over non-conference South View High School.
Part of a charity jamboree, the game was played at Cape Fear High School. Richmond scored two goals in the first half before slotting five goals in the final 40 minutes.
Junior Allie Rodgers scored two goals in the win, one in each half, bringing her season total to four goals in three matches to lead the team.
Also scoring two goals was senior Rebeca Avalos, who head coach Chris Larsen moved from her starting center back position to forward in the second half.
Sophomore Hanna Smith also scored, making it her second goal in the last two matches.
Freshman Yulissa Avalos tallied a goal, her second of the season, and rounding out the scoring with her first goal of the spring was junior Gabby Lutz.
Adding assists in the win were seniors Cheyenne Jacobs (2) and Sheccid Heaton, along with sophomore Mariana Mendez.
Sophomore goalkeeper Quanna Bostic recorded her second shutout in three matches to start the season.
“We held possession of the ball for most of the first half, and Quanna made a couple of good stops,” Larsen said. “In the second half we put it away and I made sure everyone got ample playing time.
“We’ve played some reasonable soccer and gotten better each game,” he added. “Being 3-0 is good, but each game coming up is going to be a little tougher. After this upcoming week, we’ll really see what kind of team we are.”
Richmond (3-0) will play three more non-conference matches next week, all at home, against Lumberton, Purnell Swett and Uwharrie Charter Academy.
Up first will be Lumberton (0-3) on Monday, starting at 7 p.m.
