PINEHURST – Rain can often dampen a round of golf; but that wasn’t the case for several Richmond Senior High School Lady Raiders golfers Monday.

In action Monday at Pinehurst No. 5 for the 2017 regional tournament, RSHS had three of its members compete at the Sandhills Athletic Conference regional tournament. Representing the Lady Raiders were Natalie Davis, Hailey Miller and Dakota Stephens.

Miller, a sophomore who has earned the title as the Lady Raiders’ top golfer, shot a 97, which was good enough to make it to the state tournament. Stephens finished with a 104, and Davis shot a 107, neither quite good enough to move on.

Pinecrest High School’s Mackenzie Battle shot a tournament best 74. The Lady Patriots had all five of its players qualify for the state tournament (Lorin Wagler, 78; Mara Hirtle, 87; Jaclyn Kenzel, 91; Katie Ochoa 94).

Jack Britt High School, another SAC school, also had one golfer qualify to continue play. The Lady Buccaneers’ McKayla Daffin shot a 94.

Set for Monday, October 23 and Tuesday, October 24, the state tournament will be held locally at Pinehurst No. 1.

Head coach Jeff Ingram was proud of all the ladies today, and their efforts throughout the course of the season.

“I think they all did well, especially in rainy, wet conditions,” Ingram said. “It took longer than normal due to the weather. I am proud of them all, and look forward to Hailey being in the state tournament next week”.
