WADESBORO — The Richmond Senior softball team couldn’t get into a groove on Monday at non-conference Anson High School.

Suffering their second consecutive loss, the Lady Raiders were no-hit by Haileigh Boone in a 6-0 decision.

Boone threw a complete game and struck out 14 batters, while only allowing two walks in the first inning.

Drawing those walks for the Lady Raiders were junior Makayla Parks and sophomore Katie Way. Both runners made it into scoring position, but failed to cross the plate.

Junior Quston Leviner pitched a complete game for Richmond and threw three shutout innings to start the game. She finished the night with six runs on seven hits and seven strikeouts.

The Lady Bearcats (8-6) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, before adding three runs in the home half of the fifth. Another run in the bottom of the sixth capped the game’s scoring.

“When we play here, it’s a kind of a no-win situation,” head coach Mike Way said. “We’re in a spot where if we win we’re supposed to, and if we get beat people ask what happened. And some days it happens that way.

“(Boone) pitched well and we didn’t hit well. And those two things don’t work out together,” he added. “It wasn’t a great day to be here coming off a loss on Friday and no chance to practice in between. Excuses are for losers, and we’ll take it and just get ready to play again tomorrow.”

The Lady Raiders (10-4, 7-3 SAC) will return to Sandhills Athletic Conference play on Tuesday and host Union Pines High School (8-6, 4-4 SAC).

A win would secure a season sweep of the Lady Vikings, with play set to begin at 7 p.m.

Note: The Richmond junior varsity softball team did not play on Monday.
