LAURINBURG — Six of the seven schools in the Sandhills Athletic Conference teed off for the first time this school year on Monday.

Playing a nine-hole match at Scotch Meadows, Richmond Senior High School had all three of its golfers in action — juniors Jacey McRae and Ella Munn, and sophomore Emma Himann.

The Lady Raiders placed fifth out of the five qualifying teams (needing at least three golfers). Richmond’s team score was 178 on the front nine.

“Always great to get our season started,” head coach Keith Parsons shared. “Really pleased with everyone’s play. Ella nearly made the first birdie of her high school career on No. 6, a tight par four of about 275 yards. She tapped in for a routine par.

“And Emma hit some wonderful shots in her first career match. We’re so happy she joined our group. Jacey showed her experience several times and hit some amazing shots, too.”

Munn, a three-year golfer, led the team with a 57. She was followed by Humann (58) and McRae (63).

Pinecrest High School won the match with a team posting of 103. Camilah Porras’ score of 32 (4-under) led the field.

Other final team scores were Union Pines (134), Lee County (148) and Scotland (158). The Lady Raiders recorded two points in the standings.

“We are ready to host our home match at Foxfire next Monday,” Parsons closed.

The Lady Raiders will host their lone home match of the season next Monday at Foxfire. Another nine-hole match, golfers will tee off at 3 p.m.
