LUMBERTON, N.C. – The Richmond Senior High School Lady Raiders tennis team braved the sweltering heat Thursday to defeat Sandhills Athletic Conference opponent Lumberton High School 7-2.
The Lady Raiders (8-4, 8-3 SAC) No. 1 seed senior Destiny Buie lost to the Lady Pirates’ Kaitlyn McDonald, 4-6, 3-6. Winning for the Lady Raiders was senior No. 2 seed Kathleen Pittman, who won her sets 6-0-, 6-3 over Morgan Miller.
In the No. 3 singles competition, it was senior Greyson Way who defeated Elizabeth Stanly, 6-0,6-0, and senior Meredith Stogner lost to McKnight Pope, 4-6, 3-6 in No. 4 play.
Finishing singles competition for the Lady Raiders was junior Emily Parsons, who had the longest match of the day, defeating Anna Russ, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4. No.6 junior Chloe Wiggins won over Ashley Prevatte, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles play, No. 1 duo Buie and Pittman defeated McDonald and Stanley, 8-4. Way and Wiggins knocked off Russ and Prevatte, 8-6. Raiders’ Taylor Parrish, with partner Parsons, kept the doubles wins rolling, besting Pope and Carleigh Parrish, 8-2.
The Lady Raiders will are set to continue their hunt to move up in SAC standings, as they’ll be on the road at Seventy-First High School on Tuesday, October 3 at 4 p.m.
