LAUREL HILL — Another week of middle school volleyball is in the books, and staying atop of the Southeastern Middle School Athletic Conference standings is Hamlet Middle School.

The Lady Red Rams continued their hot start to the season with another brushing of a conference opponent on Wednesday. Head coach Alex Gardner’s team traveled to an unbeaten Carver Middle School and picked up wins on both ends of the double header.

The first match against the Lady Eagles saw Hamlet edge the home team 25-19 and 25-15, and was followed by a 25-18, 25-16 showing in the second match. Improving to 8-0 on the season, all against SEMSAC opponents,  the Lady Red Rams haven’t dropped a single set to their competition.

“Carver had some amazing hitters,” Gardner commented. “They were a true competitor and a tough team to face. Both teams played at an incredible level.

“I’m proud of how my girls continue to fight and don’t get down on themselves when they make mistakes,” she added. “I love watching them play and communicate as a team.”

Katie Way was again one of Hamlet’s leading point getters, serving four aces, earning three kills on 19 attacks and adding four digs on defense. Ryelan Lyerly was also productive, finishing the afternoon with an ace, three kills and five digs.

Christi Jacobs added three kills and two digs, Jenna Gardner had four aces and a dig, Orena Drake had a team-high six aces, Emma Altman chipped in a kill and two digs and libero Kady Harris notched five digs.
