ROCKINGHAM — Seemingly unable to miss during last week’s meet, a member of the Richmond Senior High School boys’ bowling team helps kick off the winter edition of The Richmond Observer’s weekly series.
Landon Taylor, a senior bowler, has been named the Official Richmond County Male Student-Athlete of the Week presented by Rockingham NC Self Storage.
Helping the Raiders split a pair of Sandhills Athletic Conference matches last week, Taylor was Richmond’s most consistent bowler across the two contests.
Following his performance, Taylor earned his second career recognition. He was also recognized during his junior baseball season.

A straight-A student, Taylor will take two more classes at RichmondCC in the spring. He’ll also have another section of Weight Training Honors and Economics and Personal Finance Honors while playing baseball.
“KNOCKING DOWN PINS” WITH LANDON TAYLOR
Off to a strong start this season, Taylor has served as Richmond’s bowler in the fourth and ninth frames. The Raiders split their two Sandhills Athletic Conference matches last week with Union Pines and Hoke County high schools.
Between the two contests with the Vikings and Bucks, Taylor closed out 14-of-16 total frames, finishing the day with an .880 closing percentage, which was a team-high.
Starting the meet with a 4-1 win over the Vikings, Richmond won by scores of 140-119, 199-140, 159-170 and 154-127 for a final count of 652-556. Taylor went 7-for-8 with two strikes and five spares.
Although the Raiders lost 3-2 to Hoke County in the second match by just 15 pins in the total count, Taylor was consistent in the lane. He closed 7-of-8 frames again, this time for a single-match season-high six strikes and added a spare.
Through four matches this winter, Taylor has a .906 closing percentage (29-for-32), which leads the team. He’s knocked down 12 strikes and 17 spares.
The Raiders (2-2) have another conference meet Thursday at the Sandhills Bowling Center in Aberdeen. Richmond will face Scotland and Southern Lee high schools starting at 4 p.m.
