ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team couldn’t complete its comeback attempt Tuesday.

Hosting Pinecrest High School, the JV Raiders lost 68-57 to the JV Patriots on their home floor.

Trailing by as many as 15 points in the second quarter, Richmond pulled within three points in the opening two minutes of the final stanza. But Pinecrest used an 11-3 run to earn the win.

Three JV Raiders scored double-digits — Chance Crowder (18 points), BJ Hinson (13 points) and Yusaun Harrison (11 points).

Josiah Brewington (6 points), Andrae Streeter (5 points) and Elijah Peterkin (4 points) also scored.

Pinecrest took a 23-16 lead after the first quarter thanks to three three-pointers, five buckets and four free throws.

Four JV Raiders scored in the opening eight minutes, led by Crowder’s seven points on two field goals and a triple.

Streeter scored all five of his points in the game with two baskets and a free throw. Harrison and Hinson each netted a bucket to get their scoring started.

Crowder sandwiched two buckets around two free throws to give him 13 points at the break. Hinson scored four field goals and a free throw to reach 11 points.

Out of the locker room, a 19-13 run by Richmond pulled the team within seven points, 57-50, entering the fourth.

Crowder (field goal, triple), Brewington (field goal, three free throws) and Harrison (two field goals, free throw) each had five points in the third. Peterkin netted his four points on two shots as well.

Getting within a possession, 57-54, at the 6:03 mark of the closing period, Richmond’s attempt stalled.

Recording his final four points was Harrison, with Hinson and Brewington scoring two points and one point, respectively.

The JV Raiders (6-5, 4-4 Sandhills Athletic Conference) will travel to Hoke County Friday and start at 6 p.m.
