SANFORD — A season-long slide continued for the Richmond Senior High School volleyball team Tuesday.
Unable to get a win in their fourth straight match, the Lady Raiders also suffered their fourth consecutive Sandhills Athletic Conference defeat.
Playing on the road at Lee County High School, Richmond was shutout 3-0. Final set scores were 26-28, 20-25 and 18-25.
Similar to their recent string of losses, the Lady Raiders remained competitive in each set but had trouble shutting the door on the final few points.
“We missed too many serves tonight,” head coach Ashleigh Larsen said. “And we had a lack of communication.
“But there were also times when we had moments where we were playing well. The girls just can’t seem to find that last drive to win sets.”
The Lady Raiders (5-6, 1-4 SAC) travel to Uwharrie Charter Academy (13-2) Wednesday for a non-conference match. The season series finale will begin at 6 p.m.
JV Lady Raiders unable to earn win
Richmond’s junior varsity volleyball team lost its match in three sets Tuesday.
Falling to Lee County 2-1, the JV Lady Raiders collected set scores of 21-25, 27-25 and 2-15.
“We couldn’t get into a smooth rhythm tonight where all of our plays were productive at the same time,” head coach Melissa Dennis said.
“We would have great net play but struggle to get a pass, then we would pass well and not be able to find the floor. One good thing we did was being able to keep them on their toes with our serving tonight.”
The JV Lady Raiders (5-5, 2-3 SAC) also play at Uwharrie Charter Academy Wednesday. Action is slated for 5 p.m.
