HAMLET – Ryelan Lyerly dominated the stat sheet in Monday’s girls’ basketball game between Hamlet and Cordova middle schools.

Lyerly scored more points in the game than every other player from both teams combined.  Her 29 points were aided by a huge defensive day from her fellow Lady Red Rams resulting in a 37-13 rout of the visiting Lady Cavaliers.

Lyerly was the lone Lady Red Ram to light up the scoreboard in the first quarter outscoring Cordova 9-3 in the process.  She went on to add seven more in the second quarter with teammate Jamia Crowder contributing a basket of her own, leading to an 18-7 advantage at the break.

Scoring 16 in the first half did not slow Lyerly down.  She netted 11 of the game’s 15 points in the third quarter.  Layups from teammate Amerah Primus and Cordova’s Janiya Leak were the only other points scored in period.

Primus, Crowder and Lyerly were the only scorers for Hamlet in the game, and they contributed one basket each in the game’s final quarter.

Primus and Crowder each added four in the win for Hamlet.  Yasmin McLaughlin led the Lady Cavaliers with six points, Leak added four, and Devaeh Wall added three from the free throw line.

The Lady Red Rams improved to 6-2 on the season and will travel to Ellerbe for the regular season finale on Thursday.  Cordova dropped to 0-8 and will end their season at West Hoke on Thursday.
