ROCKINGHAM — A senior member of the Richmond Senior High School cheerleading team is spotlighted in the latest edition of The Richmond Observer’s weekly series.
Mattie Moss, a three-year varsity cheerleader, has been named the Official Richmond County Female Student-Athlete of the Week presented by Rockingham NC Self Storage.
In the biggest game of the year Friday, Moss and the rest of the cheerleaders helped energize Raider Stadium as the football team thumped rival Scotland High School to win the regular season conference championship.
A four-year member of the Richmond cheerleading program, as well as one of the top academic students in her graduating class, Moss earned her first career Student-Athlete of the Week recognition.

“CLASSROOM CREDITS” WITH MATTIE MOSS
Not only one of the leaders on the varsity cheer squad, Moss is among the top three students in Richmond’s graduating class of 2025.
Currently with a 4.71 weighted grade point average, she’s ranked No. 3 amongst her peers at Richmond.
Helping her get ahead has been her participation in the school’s dual enrollment program with Richmond Community College.
“The biggest benefit of taking RCC classes is I’ll be able to get my degree early since I know what I want to do,” Moss explained. “And it’s also helpful because it’ll lower my tuition.”
This semester, Moss is taking three classes at RichmondCC — Biology 112, Chemistry 151 and Math 271. At this time, she has all As in those courses.
At the high school, Moss earned perfect 100% grades during the first nine-week period of her senior year. The two classes she’s enrolled in are Annual Production Honors and Economics and Personal Finance Honors.
“My favorite class this semester is yearbook,” Moss shared. “We are making memories while helping create a yearbook full of them.”
In the spring, Moss will take three more classes at RichmondCC and another section of Annual Production Honors at Richmond. She will also be enrolled in Senior Senate.
Moss is also involved in National Beta Club, National Honor Society, HOSA, Fellowship of Christian Students and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
