“BREAKING RECORDS” WITH MAYLYN WALLACE

In her first season in the pool for the Lady Raiders, Wallace has been anything but a fish out of water. As the team continues its trek through the Sandhills Athletic Conference slate, Wallace has continued to improve her times through the first three weeks.

During Richmond’s conference meet last Wednesday at St. Andrews University, Wallace set her new personal record in the 50-yard freestyle. She cut through the water in the championship heat, swimming two lengths in 31.52 seconds.

That mark was good enough to put Wallace third overall and 12 points, getting outswam by just Lumberton’s Peyton Brooks (30.93 seconds) and Hoke County’s Taryn Gamble (31.19 seconds). Her third-place finish was Wallace’s second time in three meets breaking into the top three spots.

Fresh off her new record time, Wallace also swam in individual 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. She took 10th overall in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:22.88 for three points.

Anchoring both relays for the Lady Raiders, Wallace helped Richmond to a third-place finish and 24 points in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:18.83), and a fifth-place posting and 20 more points in the 400-yard freestyle relay (5:55.14).

The Lady Raiders and Wallace will wrap up their regular season at St. Andrews on Wednesday, but she says she’s out to get more time off her placements and help Richmond stay competitive in the standings. Heats will get underway at 6 p.m. and the SAC championship will be held later this month.
