WADESBORO — Local middle school golfers began play this week with two matches at Twin Valley Golf Club.
Richmond County Schools’ middle school golf season is co-ed this spring, with three regular season matches and a conference championship.
Golfers play in groups of four and play the front nine at Twin Valley, with double-par being the maximum score on each hole.
The top three golfers were the same in each of the first two matches, with Hamlet Middle School’s Kevin Tabacolde taking first place both times on the par 37 course. He shot a 42 (+5) in the season opener, before shooting a season-best 41 (+4) on Thursday.
Rockingham Middle School’s Landon Summerlin and C.J. Turner would take second and third place, respectively, in both matches.
Summerlin opened with a 51 (+14) and improved by five strokes in the second match with a 46 (+9). Turner wasn’t far behind, shooting a 54 (+17) and a 56 (+19).
Representing Ellerbe Middle School were Camden Williams and Maddie Maree. Williams posted scores of 63 and 67, and Maree went from a 72 earlier in the week to a 67 in the second match.
Golfers will return to action on Monday. Scores submitted by Allen Adeimy and Mica Way. No other scores were provided.
