Not one, but two, mercy-rule victories were recorded by the Ellerbe Middle School girls’ and boys’ soccer teams on Tuesday.

Defending their home field against Carver Middle School, the Lady Wildcats opened with a 6-0 win.

Keeping her scoring foot hot, Mariana Gonzalez Aguilar netted a hat trick in the first half against the Lady Eagles. Also netting two goals in the opening half was Yulissa Avalos.

Closing the door on the shutout win was Madyson Cloninger, who tallied the game-ending goal in the second half.

Ellerbe’s boys’ soccer team took just five minutes into the second half to also blank the Eagles 6-0. Edin Carillo netted four goals in the win for the Wildcats.

German Fonseca opened the scoring on a penalty kick, which was followed by two goals from Carillo. Cole Lambeth added a goal on a nice volley from outside the box, and Carillo scored his third goal before the half to make it 5-0.

Capitalizing on an opportunity early in the second half, Carillo slotted his fourth goal of the afternoon to end the game early.

The Lady Wildcats improved to 5-1 on the season, while the Wildcats evened their record at 3-3. Both teams will return to action after spring break on April 27 at Spring Hill Middle School.
