ROCKINGHAM – After only losing one match during the entire regular season, the Rockingham Middle School volleyball team was stunned in the Southeastern Middle School Athletic Conference championship Wednesday against Anson Middle School Blue.

That only regular season loss also came to Anson Blue for Teresa Mason’s Lady Rockets, and Wednesday’s championship was a close bout that saw the top-seeded home team come up just short in the five-set match. Rockingham won the first two sets by scores of 25-3 and 25-19. But Anson would roar back to win the final three sets 13-25, 12-25 and 12-15.

Leading scorers for Rockingham were Katherine Davis (33 points), Keyoni Nichols (24 points), Joy Styles (17 points) and Edriana Davis (10 points). Also getting on the stat sheet were Allie Rodgers (nine points), Kenleigh Locklear (four points) and Jamiya Lindsey (one point). Rockingham finished the season with a 9-2 overall record.

“Thank you to everyone who came out to support the team,” Mason said. “And special thanks to the players and managers for all of your hard work and dedication throughout the season.”
