“BOWLING STRIKES” WITH MITCHELL MASSEY

One of just a couple of Raiders to return to this year’s bowling team, Massey has picked up where he left off as a sophomore. During his sophomore season, Massey represented the Raiders in the state championship, a team that finished 10th overall.

This season, Massey has proven to be an effective bowler in the “anchor” spot of the Baker format lineup, bowling in the fifth and 10th frames. In his outing last week, Massey closed 19 of his 24 total frames (79 percent) and knocked down an impressive 15 strikes (63 percent).

As one of the leaders this year, Massey helped the Raiders defeat Purnell Swett High School in last week’s match. Richmond would win the first three games 130-111, 125-115 amd 137-105 and the overall pin count 507-456. Against the Rams, Massey accounted for 200 total pins with seven strikes and three spares.

Before beating Purnell Swett, Richmond gave Jack Britt a run for its money, which head coach Ralph Butler said is “one of the best three programs in the conference.” The Raiders and Massey would split the four games with the Buccaneers, winning games two and four by scores of 159-148 and 191-136.

Richmond would come up just short in the pin total, 591-609, but Massey impressed with 243 total pins, eight strikes (five straight to start) and two more spares.

The Raiders and Massey will return to action on Thursday at Lafayette Lanes in Fayetteville to take on Hoke County and another Sandhills Athletic Conference opponent.
