Morning scores drop with lower temps, less rain in Wyndham Championship

GREENSBORO — The weather on Friday seemed to be less of an issue for players as scores in the second round trended lower at the Wyndham Championship.

The heavy rains which were originally expected to roll through were mostly cleared by the start of the earlier second rounds.

Despite some lower scores on the day, trouble was always lurking around Sedgefield Country Club.

The greens complexes around Sedgefield started to speed up throughout the day and more of the undulations and Ross-style domed greens invoked caution and frustration for some.

The par 3 16th hole was notably difficult with patrons reporting seeing large groups of the field coming through on the morning rounds struggling with the false front of the green and seeing seemingly good shots slowly careening down the front area and collecting 10-20 yards.

Through all this, first-round leader Russell Henley carried momentum and avoided mistakes on round two.

Henley shot a 66 to follow up his first-round heater and field leading 62.

Henley worked his way around the treacherous par 3s shooting even par throughout the day and took advantage of the par 4s and 5s shooting a combined -4.

Adam Svensson, Lucas Glover and Byeong Hun An had solid mornings and currently sit tied for second, with the second wave of afternoon golfers teeing off.

An had a round highlight with a hole out from the fairway on the 18th hole to card a eagle and grab a share of second heading into the weekend.
