RAEFORD — A successful night from three-point land paved the way to another big win for the Richmond junior varsity boys’ basketball team on Friday.

Extending their season-long winning streak to 10 games, the JV Raiders defeated Hoke County High School 71-54.

Sinking eight three-pointers as a team, including six in the first half, Richmond was led by freshman Amer Morrison’s 23 points.

Morrison cashed in on six three-pointers, netting five in the first two periods. He also tied his career-high in points.

Seven other JV Raiders scored, including sophomores Ahaiver McDonald (10 points) and Keyonta Davis (9 points).

Freshmen Terande Spencer and Tate Craven chipped in 8 points and 7 points, respectively.

The JV Raiders opened the game on a 19-2 run, allowing just a pair of free throws by Hoke County. Morrison scored 11 points in the first eight minutes, connecting on two threes from the right side, another from the left corner and a transition bucket.

Four other JV Raiders scored to make it a 19-6 lead after one. Davis, Davion Ingram, McDonald and Spencer each had two points.

Richmond’s lead grew to as many as 29 points in the second quarter. Davis started with a triple, which was followed by a McDonald drive and another three-pointer from Morrison.

Craven got on the board at the 3:50 mark, scoring the first of his five second-quarter points on a shot under the rim. Fouled on the play, he sank the and-one opportunity.

Breaking the game open to 41-12, Ingram scored two more of his six points. Craven scored another basket from close range and Morrison hit his final triple of the half.

Morrison helped keep the JV Raiders ahead with his final six points in the third. He rattled in another triple, drove the lane and added a free throw.

Sophomore Keidreion Crump recorded Richmond’s final three-ball of the game at the 3:52 mark of the third. He finished the game with five points.

Craven and Spencer each scored two points in the third. Richmond carried a 56-33 lead into the final stanza.

McDonald was the team’s leading scorer in the closing eight minutes, netting six points on three field goals.

Spencer added his final four points, sophomore Ali Tyson chipped in all three of his points and Ingram capped his night with a bucket.
