ROCKINGHAM — Just because the CARS Tour race has been moved to October doesn’t mean there won’t be racing at Rockingham Speedway this spring.

Myrtle Beach Drift announced on Dec. 29 that it would hold 10 races at the historic track in 2021, starting with the ICEBREAKER Open Drift Day on Feb. 20.

According to the series’ Facebook page, the MB Drift Driftmas Matsuri was held at the speedway the weekend prior to the CARS Tour tire test.

“We have worked it out with the track to continuously add paving throughout the season,” organizers said in a statement on Facebook. “We have the creative freedom for paving to improve the facility. The amount of paving will depend on turnout – better turnout means MORE PAVING!”

MB Drift released a promo video Jan. 4 featuring footage from the December event.

According to the video, the series called Myrtle Beach Speedway home for 15 years.

“At the end of the 2020 season, the speedway was rezoned to be sold to developers,” reads a caption at the beginning of the video. “Myrtle Beach Drift Series was forced to relocate and start a new chapter in their story …”

The video shows cars driving and drifting around the speedway’s road course.

Other events are scheduled for March 13, April 17-18, May 15, June 12, July 17, Aug. 14, Sept. 25, Oct. 23-24, and the season ender on Nov. 20.

The CARS Tour race originally scheduled for March 6 is now slated for Oct. 30.
