“ON THE ATTACK” WITH NOAH GIL

Richmond’s boys’ soccer team played in two matches last week to end the regular season. In the first match, the Raiders fell to non-conference Independence High School by four goals on Monday.

Two nights later, the momentum was on Richmond’s side as the Raiders handed rival Scotland a 5-1 loss on senior night. Scoring twice was Gil, who netted the team’s second and third tallies in the victory.

Netting his first goal in the 24th minute, Gil gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead in the first half. The goal was assisted by sophomore midfielder Landon Summerlin, who sent an overhead pass down the left sideline.

Gil got possession of the ball and made a charge into the box, beating the goalkeeper 1v1 to extend Richmond’s lead.

Holding a 2-1 lead early in the second half, Gil’s second goal of the game was assisted by junior Jesus Castro in the 57th minute.

Castro attempted a corner kick and got his own rebound, sending it back into the box. There to head the ball into the net was Gil, who helped Richmond bounce back out to a two-goal advantage.

Also scoring in the victory were senior Jullian Cline and juniors Vernan McDonald and James Eason.
