“IN THE NET” WITH NOAH GIL
Playing in three matches, the Raiders went 1-2 against East Mecklenburg, Scotland and Pinecrest high schools.
Richmond’s lone victory was a 4-0 win over the Fighting Scots last Wednesday, which featured two tallies by Gil. He also scored Richmond’s only goal in a 3-1 loss at East Mecklenburg to start the week.
During his junior season, Gil’s second full varsity campaign, he scored six goals. That was second on the team behind seniors Jesus Castro and James Eason, who each scored nine goals.
Against the Eagles, Gil redirected a pass into the box from the left side to score in the 52nd minute. At the time, Gil’s score made it a 2-1 deficit for the Raiders.
Two nights later, Gil recorded his third two-goal game of his career, which all have come against Scotland.
Opening the scoring in the 14th minute, Gil moved into the keeper’s box and scored on an assist from freshman Daniel Gomez to make it 1-0.
Early in the second half, Gil scored again to put Richmond ahead 2-0. Just 21 seconds after the opening whistle, Gil connected from distance from the middle of the field on an assist from Eason.
Richmond finished the season with a 9-11-1 overall record and a 5-7-1 mark against Sandhills Athletic Conference teams (including the SAC tournament).
On the playoff bubble, Gil and company will await the release to the NCHSAA 4A East brackets on Friday.
