“THROWING IT DOWN” WITH NYGIE STROMAN
Stroman has been Richmond’s most consistent scorer this season, having scored over the 20-point mark three times and is averaging 15.7 points per game. He’s coming off his best scoring performance of the year against Jack Britt High School on Friday, which saw the big man tie his career-high of 27 points in a 58-43 win.
On the road at Jack Britt the past two seasons, Stroman has come in clutch for Richmond. Last year he laid in the game-winning layup with 5.7 seconds left, and this season he earned a double-double with a team-high 16 rebounds.
From the floor, Stroman shot 10-of-18, making 55.6 percent of his shots. He added seven free throws on 10 attempts. Last season, Stroman also scored 27 points against Purnell Swett High School.
Against the Buccaneers, Stroman lit up the board early, scoring 16 first-half points. He made three field goals and two free throws in the first quarter, followed the same stat line in the second.
A quiet third quarter of just two points was rounded out with nine points in the fourth, part of Richmond holding off a late surge by the Bucs. Many of Stroman’s points in the last stanza came on a 12-0 run by Richmond, which also saw him throw down a two-handed jam on a bounce pass from Caleb Hood near the end of regulation.
The Raiders will look to improve to 4-0 against SAC opponents when they travel to Hoke County High School on Tuesday. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
