HAMLET — A local traveling wrestling organization will begin its new season later this month.

Real Wrestlers Real Heroes, which is based in Richmond County, will hold its first day of practice on Sunday, Sept. 16.

Directed by former Richmond Senior High School coach Earl Nicholson, the program’s opening practice will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Richmond County Ninth Grade Academy.

Nicholson, who has over 35 years of coaching and wrestling experience said, “The goal of the club is to give athletes from Richmond County and surrounding areas a chance to get extra training in a sport that has no recreation league.

“The club focuses on strength conditioning, mental toughness, high level technique and doing things the right way.”

Throughout the season, Nicholson expects the program to compete in six to 10 tournaments.

The age range is for both boys and girls, starting at age seven up to 18. The weight classes range from 40 pounds to 285 pounds.

This season, Nicholson will be assisted by former wrestlers Torrance Buie and Atiba Legrande.

“Come out and give it a try,” Nicholson said. “Sign up on any Sunday.”
