ROCKINGHAM —The sound of Harley-Davidson motorcycles echoed down the track at Rockingham Dragway this weekend for the AHDRA Spring Nationals.

The track saw both qualifying and competition on Saturday due to forecasted severe weather for Sunday.

Several bikes screamed down the straightaway at speeds in excess of 200 mph.

Tim Kerrigan, a racing veteran with three decades behind the handlebars, took home the Top Fuel trophy and Tii Tharpe bested Ryan Peery in the Nitro Funny Bike class.

Other event winners include:

  • John Price – Pro Mod
  • Kimberly Desheilds – Super Modified
  • Keith Carper – Modified
  • Sam White – Pro Fuel

Prior to the competitive rounds, local vocalist Nikki Fletcher performed the national anthem.

The AHDRA returns to the Rock Oct. 27-29 for the annual Jim McClure Memorial Race.

This coming weekend, the Dragway hosts the 17th annual Apple Chill Festival, followed by the Modern Street Hemi Shootout (11-13), ManCup Motorcycle Drag Racing Series (19-21), and the Big John Memorial Weekend Bracket Championship (26-29).
