ROCKINGHAM — The Class of 2024 reigned supreme on the gridiron in the latest edition of an annual end-of-the-school-year tradition.

With the countdown officially on to graduation, the senior class made one final imprint on its legacy by defeating the junior class in Richmond Senior High School’s Powder Puff game Wednesday.

Unlike last year’s triple-overtime game which saw the Class of 2024 edged late, the soon-to-be graduates returned the favor with a 20-18 victory over the junior Class of 2025.

The game featured four 10-minute quarters which followed a flag football format. Players and coaches from both classes wore custom jersey tops with nicknames to add to the festivities.

Playing on a 60-yard field, each team started at its own 15-yard line and had four attempts to reach a first down of 15 yards to extend the drive. If unsuccessful, the drive resulted in a turnover on downs or a punt.

Katie Way returned for her second Power Puff game at quarterback for the senior class, while Javian Drake served as the class of 2024’s head coach.

Finding teammates Ryelan Lyerly and Allie Rodgers, Way aired out two passing scores. Christi Jacobs scored one rushing touchdown in the victory, while also running in what proved to be the game-deciding two-point conversion.

Rodgers stopped a potential game-winning drive by the junior class in the game’s closing seconds, sending the seniors into a celebratory frenzy.
