ROCKINGHAM — Unlike the three other teams holding tryouts across campus on Monday, the Richmond Senior High School football program held its first official practice of the new season.
Fresh off of summer workouts, complete with several seven-on-seven scrimmages, the Raiders participated in the first of two practices without pads.
On Wednesday, players can add shoulder pads but no full uniforms or physical contact is permitted until the sixth practice.
Bryan Till, who is entering his sixth season as Richmond’s head coach, led a series of conditioning drills alongside a host of assistant coaches, including offensive coordinator Patrick Hope and defensive coordinator Chris Campolieta.
The varsity and junior varsity teams worked out together before splitting into position groups. The Raiders also worked through special teams drills.
The countdown to kickoff is officially on, as the Raiders will open their season at home on Friday, Aug. 19 against Mount Tabor High School.
Ahead of the regular season, Richmond will travel to Marlboro County High School for a jamboree on Aug. 12 and play Dillon High School (S.C.).
