PHOTOS: Hamlet Post 49 at Ashley Post 129

WILMINGTON — Strong pitching and 19 free bases between walks and hit-by-pitches helped the Hamlet American Legion baseball team get back into the win column on Tuesday.

Defeating Ashley Post 129 by a final score of 11-3, Hamlet snapped a two-game skid.

Matthew Miller (5 IP, five hits, two runs) and J.D. Scarbrough (2 IP, one hit, one run) combined for the pitching duties.

A total of eight batters drew at least one walk for Post 49. Jackson Kuhn had three free passes and plated two runs. 

Markey Purvis (2 RBI), Hunter Huneycutt, Ryley Norton and Carter Bean each had two base on balls.

Hamlet had just four hits, including RBI singles from Scarbrough and Eythan Reynolds. Purvis and Tristan Hunt added singles.

Hamlet Post 49 (7-5, 3-1 Area 2) will play at home on Wednesday, weather pending. The team will host Hope Mills Post 32 at 7 p.m. at Memorial Park.
