SILER CITY — Rebounding on Sunday, the Hamlet American Legion baseball team entered the win column for the first time this summer.

On the road against Chatham Post 292, Hamlet earned a 7-5 victory.

Riding the momentum put forth by starting pitcher Matt Miller, Post 49 used its defense and a 10-hit performance at the plate.

Taking a 4-0 lead in the top of the second, James Eason got it started with a three-RBI triple to center. That was followed by an RBI base knock from Ashton Phifer, who went 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Miller tossed 6.1 innings before leaving due to the pitch count. He allowed four runs on six hits and five walks.

Adding to its lead in the top of the fourth, Hamlet used another RBI single from Phifer to extend the lead to 5-1.

JD Scarbrough registered his two RBI in the same inning, belting a two-run inside-the-park homer to center field.
