PHOTOS: Hamlet Post 49 at Wayne County Post 11

MOUNT OLIVE — The Hamlet American Legion baseball team lost to Wayne County Post 11 to begin its new season on Saturday.

Playing at the University of Mount Olive, Post 49 fell 18-5 in five innings.

Jackson Kuhn and Ryley Norton each drove in two runs and Hunter Meeds recorded the other RBI.

Hamlet had 10 hits in the loss, two apiece coming from Meeds, JD Scarbrough and Ashton Phifer. Adding a base hit were Norton, Tristan Hunt, Carter Bean and Jon Westbay.

The 49ers used four pitchers on Saturday — Skylar Mathis, Mason Konen, Layton Hardee and Scarbrough. Defensively, Hamlet committed seven errors.

The 49ers (0-1) will continue their busy start to the season with a road game against Chatham Post 93 on Sunday (2 p.m.) and a home game against Horry County Post 111 on Monday (7 p.m.).
