PHOTOS: Hamlet Post 49 vs. Florence Post 1

HAMLET — The Hamlet American Legion baseball team dropped its non-conference game against Florence Post 1 on Thursday.

Post 49, which played its fifth game in six days to start the season, lost 7-3.

Skyler Mathis (4 IP) and Hunter Huneycutt (3 IP) combined to do the pitching for Hamlet. Mathis allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits, while Huneycutt gave up one hit and one run.

Jackson Kuhn made it 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI groundout to second base, scoring James Eason (fielder’s choice).

Trailing 6-1 in the sixth, Huneycutt drew a bases-loaded walk for an RBI to score Kuhn (single).

Hamlet’s final run was scored by Ashton Phifer (leadoff double) when Kuhn reached on an error by the shortstop in the seventh.

Tristan Hunt and Ryley Norton each had two singles, combining for four of Post 49’s six hits.

Up next for Post 49 will be its Area 2 conference opener at home on Monday. Hamlet will welcome in Brunswick Post 543 at 7 p.m.
