HAMLET — The Post 49 baseball team suffered a 6-3 loss to Wilmington Post 10 to close out the regular season on Friday.
At the end of the first inning, Hamlet took a 3-1 lead. Ryley Norton drew a bases-loaded walk and two runs scored when Carter Bean reached on an error.
Wilmington tied it 3-3 in the fifth inning on the first of its two home runs in the game. An inning later, a three-run shot over the fence in right field capped the scoring.
Hunter Huneycutt pitched 6.1 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits. He struck out two batters and picked off two base runners.
Skyler Mathis closed out the final two-thirds of an inning, holding Hamlet’s deficit to three runs. In the seventh, Hamlet sent just four batters to the plate.
Jackson Kuhn had a pair of singles and recorded half of Hamlet’s hits. Adding a single was Ashton Phifer and Tristan Hunt scorched a double to the wall in right-center.

Hamlet, which finished the regular season with a 10-8 overall record, will begin the Area 2 conference tournament next week.
Registering a 5-3 conference mark, Post 49 will know who it faces when the bracket is finalized this weekend.
