ROCKINGHAM — For the second time this year, MotorTrend returned to Richmond County on Tuesday — this time for Hot Rod Drag Week.

Hundreds of drivers tested their cars (and trucks) at Rockingham Dragway on the second day of the weeklong tour in an effort to find out who has the “Fastest Streetcar in America.”

Many drivers stopped to fuel up just south of the track before putting Rockingham in their rearview and heading to Bristol Dragway in Tennessee.

Day 4 will be held at Carolina Dragway in Aiken, South Carolina, before drivers return to Darlington Dragway — where they started on Monday — for the finals. The drivers are also required to follow a designated route from track to track.

Visit motortrend.com for results from each track.

The Dragway won’t stay quiet for long, with the SFG World Series of Bracket Racing kicking off Wednesday and running through Saturday.

Free tickets are available at multiple local businesses for American Drag Racing League’s Dragstock 2023, scheduled for Sept. 29-Oct. 1.

Richmond County Tourism Director Meghann Lambeth told the RO earlier this year that having MotorTrend bring two events to the speedway and dragway “highlights the national notoriety of these facilities and their significance in the motorsports industry.”
