RAEFORD — Ahead of Richmond’s split with Lee County and Pinecrest high schools Wednesday, several of the wrestling program’s junior varsity competitors hit the mat.

Facing an assortment of opponents from Lee County, Pinecrest and host Hoke County High School, the JV Raiders went 5-4 overall.

Junior Jason Gainey (190-pounds) went 3-0 in his trio of matches, winning all three by pinfall. He wrestled twice before the varsity team’s match with Pinecrest and wrestled once more ahead of the Lee County match.

Gainey won his first and third matches in the first round and recorded his second match victory with a pin in the second round.

Senior James Coicou and freshman Chase Taylor had the other two wins. Coicou pinned his Hoke County opponent in the second round and Taylor took all of 15 seconds to pin his Lee County foe.
